Mission:
To enable Snipers to detect, classify, and engage targets, conduct surveillance under day/night obscurants, no-light and adverse weather conditions.
Description:
The Family of Weapon Sights-Sniper (FWS-S) system is mounted in-line with a sniper’s day optic on the M107 Long Range Sniper Rifle (LRSR), M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System (SASS), M2010 Enhanced Sniper Rifle (ESR), future Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System (CSASS) and the Precision Sniper Rifle (PSR). The FWS-S will provide the sniper with infrared (thermal) imagery in all weather conditions, through obscurants and under all lighting conditions. The FWS-S will also include a wired remote to adjust focus, a wired capability to the Small Tactical Optical Rifle Mounted (STORM) micro-Laser Rangefinder and a wireless capability to the STORM SLX (smaller, light, and more cost-effective). The FWS-S System give Soldiers the capability to see deep into the battlefield, increase surveillance and target acquisition range, and penetrate day or night obscurants. The FWS-S System provides Snipers a large format display with increased pixel density that enables accurate long-range engagements while maintaining boresight of the in-line direct view optic.
