Description:
The HGU-56/P Aircrew Integrated Helmet System (AIHS) is made of an advanced composite of graphite and Spectra (a high-performance polyethylene). It is available in six sizes to fit male and female crew members. The AIHS HGU-56/P is 15 to 20 percent lighter than the SPH-4 flight helmet it replaced. It includes:

  • Dual Visor Housing
  • Clear and Sun (neutral density) visors
  • Laser eye protection visors
  • Communication Ear Plugs (CEP), fielded in 2002, which provide increased speech intelligibility and increased sound attenuation
  • Maxillofacial Shield, fielded in 2003, which provides fragmentation protection to the face
